Good environmental practices at Bidco
The giant Thika based oil firm, that is Bidco Oil Refineries Ltd has invested heavily on long term measures to ensure that is activities and processes does not cause diverse effects to both the human and the physical environmental. These developments are in line with the company’s environmental policy of ensuring environmental management systems that will lead to sustainable developments aimed at advancing positive impacts on both human health and the environmental. To reduce the amount of carbon emissions from fuel-oil combustion in the crude palm oil refining processes from which edible oils/ fats and soaps are manufactured, into the atmosphere, the company has resorted into the use of biofuel in its biomass boilers. Other than helping reduce the amount of carbon footprint which is harmful to the environment, this investment is also going to help the company encounter the ever rising cost of oil. Bidco has put in place a state of the art effluent treatment plant that ensure that all waste products from its systems are treated and all harmful chemicals or impurities are removed before being released to the sewers. This ensures that nothing harmful goes through the system. The giant oil firm which is the biggest and the most advanced in East and Central Africa also uses recyclable containers which are of food grade and can be re – used for food storage hence do not pollute the environment. Bidco is also committed to the implementation of an Energy Management System that will that will lead to environmental preservation and the most efficient utilization and conservation of energy in all its operations. As a result the company has received several awards for its good energy management systems. These include the overall Runners Up in Energy Management, Fuel Savings award, and the overall winner in the Energy Innovations category. The company has vigorously communicated its Environmental as well as other policies to all its staff and stakeholders to ensure that every employee is environmentally conscious.
