Fighting AIDS in the workplace

To raise awareness, the company runs employee health education talks through its well trained peer educators, backed up with AIDS prevention materials and a drama club to drive the message home. Bidco also has in place clear stigma and discrimination as well as recruitment policies. Health care provision includes voluntary testing combined with counselling and treatment. Medical support services are offered to a number of its employees and their dependents. The company collaborates with partners at a local level to bring its programmes to the wider community. The compnay also collaborates with international agencies like Global Business Coaliltion (GBC), an alliance of international companies dedicated to combating the AIDS epidemic and other diseases like malaria and TB. GBC encourages and promotes the fight against HIV and AIDS by rewarding the companies that promotes best practices in fighting the menace. The fight against HIV and AIDS requires the dedication and commitment of everyone including the government, the religious groups, the civil society, the private sector and the community at large for it to be won. The management of Bidco Oil Refineries is committed to helping end the menace, not only amongst its staff, but the community around Bidco from which it draws a big chunk of its work force. This is in line with Bidco’s slogan of ensuring a happy healthy living of its employees, customers and all other stakeholders.
