BIDCO C.E.O. BRINGS TOGETHER THIKA BUSINESS COMMUNITY TO DISCUSS HIV & AIDS

Image Description in ALT tag Thika has one of the highest HIV/AIDS prevalence rates in the country. This is mainly attributed to the high number of plantation workers, high population of migrant workers and large numbers of people on transit.

Bidco Oil Refineries Ltd and Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS, malaria and TB (GBC) have therefore partnered to bring together all Thika business leaders to a roundtable meeting which took place on Thursday 9th July, 2009 to discuss ways through which they can effectively partner and collectively collaborate to improve the health of the Thika community by safeguarding them against the devastating effects of HIV/AIDS.

The meeting chaired by Bidco CEO Mr. Vimal Shah and GBC Vice President and Regional Director, Ms. Partricia Mugambi saw Bidco share with the rest of its neighbors their unique HIV/AIDS workplace program and a working policy they have put in place. Bidco’s peer educators have committed themselves to help train and mentor peer educators for the neighboring organizations at no cost.

The over 35 CEOs from different companies, organizations and learning institutions around Thika jointly agreed to work together to curb the escalating HIV/AIDS prevalence rates in Thika and the surrounding communities.
