BIDCO MEMBERS OF STAFF PARTICIPATES IN TREE PLANTING EXERCISE

Image Description in ALT tagBidco Oil Refineries Ltd has over the years been involved in activities that are aimed at enhancing the livelihoods of its members. In line with it’s slogan of happy healthy living, both senior and junior members of staff took time off their busy work schedules on 30th September, 2008 to participate in a tree planting exercise around the factory. A total of 130 seedlings were planted during the exercise. The tree planting exercise is part of the company’s commitment towards improving the quality of life not just for its people, but for the larger community around it. Trees not only play the critical role of ensuring that we have adequate rainfall for our agricultural activities, but it also affect our quality of life through our everyday moods, activities and physical and emotional health. This is in addition to the beauty it brings to our neighborhoods. Trees can significantly alter our environment by lowering air temperatures and alleviating air pollution. Trees also improve air quality by removing carbon dioxide, particulates, and other pollutants from the air, and by producing oxygen. Greening also conserves rainwater and reduces water pollution. Tree roots act as a natural filter, removing nutrients and pollutants as water percolates down through the soil. Tree planting is an initiative that should be embraced by all sectors of the society.
