BIDCO oil Refineries Ltd is now appreciating the Japanese way of managing processes and systems in a cost efficient way. Gemba Kaizen is a Japanese Commonsense approach to low cost management through systematic approach in identifying and eliminating waste through continuous improvement in pursuit of perfection.” Introduced in BIDCO in the year 2002, it is today practiced in all the systems and operations of the company. Kaizen is about change and the change begins with how we lead. “We believe in having team leaders who mentor and build their teams that can drive us towards our vision “TO GRAB, GROW, SUSTAIN NUMBER 1 MARKET SHARE IN THE AFRICAN MARKETS,” said Mr. Vimal B. Shah, BIDCO group It gives us various tools to carry out the improvement programs, projects or workshops which are as follows: 5K (Kuchagua, Kupanga, Kusafisha, Kudumisha, Kufundisha), ensuring and encouraging small - group activities, worker/management relations, productivity improvements, total quality control, suggestion system, ensuring that there are zero defects on products, quick change circles from one process to another, quality function deployment and ensuring everything is done on time. Among the activities/processes that have been improved over the last few years is our Supply Chain from our raw materials at the supplier end coming through our internal processes and the end-product being distributed to our channel partners. This has enabled us to reduce our inventory levels across each stage of processing leading to reduction in working capital and space utilization. All these are aimed at ensuring quality goods and services at a price advantage to our customers and hence sustaining our slogan of ‘Happy Healthy Living.’
