Dignitaries from American Soybean Association visit Bidco Oil Refineries Ltd

Dignitaries from American Soybean Association ASA recently held talks with Bidco Oil Refineries Ltd, with a bid to form partnership in developing soya beans. The delegates included James Hershey, Director of World Initiative for Soy in Human Health, David Hand, Board of Director for American Soybean Association and Richard Borgsmiller, Vice Chairman, United Soybean Association.

American Soybean Association ASA has invited Bidco Oil Refineries Ltd to expand the soya oil market by venturing into the American market. Bidco Oil Refineries Ltd is currently the only local manufacturer of soya oil in Kenya. Bidco markets its fully refined soya bean oil under the brand name, “Soya Gold”. It is pure soya bean oil that is rich in proteins and is cholesterol free.

The Association’s delegates, who were touring Bidco’s factory premises in Thika, said they were particularly impressed by the way Bidco was confident in implementing its corporate values. The delegates said they were ready to listen to Bidco’s concerns, problems and provide technical assistance. “People don’t think there’s an opportunity in Africa, but with a company like Bidco I think Americans would be more interested in Africa,” said Mr. Borgsmiller.

In his address speech, Bidco’s Director, Mr. Vimal Shah said discussions were open for proposals of any kind so long as ASA was looking at a long-term relationship with Bidco. “We will always look into whatever fits into our values and goals. It is not only important to get short term benefits from sales but build a bigger market in the long term” he added. He said soya bean is a cheaper source of protein that could substitute for other vegetable grains and meat products.
